What do you guys think of this guys form?
What does he need to change to improve. Both technical and training vice?
What would you predict he could run for a 100m?
sry for no slowmotion.

He definitely moves pretty good for a larger guy. His starting position setup looks a little awkward. Could have more front side running mechanics. Pretty explosive though. I honestly have no idea what he could run for a 100 but maybe 11 high or 12 low?
He seems to run with his elbows out a bit, but that may be from his being so muscular up top.
It’s hard to get a good idea of his speed capabilities though since it is such a short acceleration. He seems to be close to falling over himself the faster he goes, if that makes sense.
Looks to be a bigger guy almost like an American footballer or bobsledder. They need lots of static strength and low end power to get mass moving (squat, olys), but he looks pretty decent to 10. Elasticity looks to be a big need (vertical stiffness and reactivity of hip extensors) and he’ll need a lot more of it to run faster. With bigger athletes it’s a challenge in this realm as they have more mass to redirect, and usually have limited max speed and plyo skills/history.
No clue what the guys history is in this realm, but
Lots of stiffness plyos single and double leg variants (low ground contact time bouncy plyos); meeting them at ability level (appropriate foot strike and ground contact times) on higher load vertical redirection plyos like hurdle hops; bounding actually tends to help these guys develop more reactive hip extension, but few can do it and many won’t progress to it with injury histories. Skip for distance, straight leg scissor bounds are some scaled down options in the bound realm. Sprinting and faster sprinting (fly work, 50m sprints, fast easy fast type work) are most specific skill in this realm, but you have to be careful to keep folks healthy and make sure they are ready for it. Upright sprinting tends to open bigger guys up and stiffness feeds back to mid range accel as well. If you don’t run upright and fast you’ll never run fast as that is the vast majority of the race.
More training history and notes and perhaps I can offer better advice (weight room loads, sprint times, other training elements)
Same problem a lot of bigger guys have – in that he doesn’t ever quite open up – I think it goes back to initial push, where he needs to better open up chest and thoracic spine – especially on first 2 steps. Will allow him to better unfold as he gets into upright running as well.
He looks like he’s able to run 11.5-11.8
Hi Thanks for all the responses
This is a guy is American football player, who wants to do 100m sprint after he has stopped his career due to a shoulder injury. He has run 10.50, but i want to see it before i believe it.
Anyways good points on. My thoughts are very related to the joint mechanics because of my background as physical therapist. From that perspektiv he has sufficient joint ROM.

10.5 wow how much does he weigh? I am also a football player at 195 Running 10.6 I would love to know what his training is like.
not to sound too harsh, but honestly this is what stands out to me
4-5 first steps way too short
about 8.5 steps at 10meters is too much especially for someone this tall
gets up way too fast at the start, plus almost completely up at 20
knees to low,too much back side
a lil bit too much movement at the elbow joint for my taste
he loks like he’s already at max V with that distance
currently definitely not running close to 10.5 from what I see, IMO more like low 12 at best granted he has the necessary speed endurance, and what about his max V form?
from the vid,it looks like he covers about 30meters in 4.xx sec,no RT,no electronic timing…I’ll leave you guys do the math.
on the positive side, he looks strong and explosive.
I hope I haven’t offended anyone, it’s just my honest opinion.

I counted 7 steps to 10m and 3.8-3.9 30 which could possibly be a 4.1 electronic.

my bad that’s 7.5 steps, almost 8…still too much to cover 10 meters especially for someone this size.
even 4.1 electronic is not close to a 10.5 100.
I’m just telling what I see.

I would like to see him race, but as of now I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt about that 10.5 because it is possible. (Even if I don’t think he runs that) 🙂
