Given that there will be quite a few ET guys heading to this meet I figured I would start a thread about it.

          https://uctc.org/schedule.html

I’ll be there running the 55m. Anyone else going that cares to sound off?

I’ll probably be running that meet. Probably just the 55. Don’t really wanna run a 200 on that track. I’m gonna try to run under 6.4, hopefully mid 6.3s. Ran decent at our intrasquad meet last week so i think im in solid shape. should be fun.

Will be there with some of my club kids. They will be competing mostly in the jumps but we have some sprinters coming as well.

I will be there also… am in old-man shape but can still beat most bantam boys.

LOL! I was thinking the same thing about myself – in that I might have a chance in the Midget division 🙂

I’m signed up for 5 events, but what I actually do will depend a lot on how quickly the schedule is moving, and how many entrants are in the field events – I don’t want to stay all day. I’m signed up for:

          55 – if I am near 7.0, I will be thrilled.
          55H – 8.6 or so – Though I haven’t had a single hurdle practice session since summer
          LJ – 6.00
          HJ – 1.75
          SP – 12.00

I’ll be there to cheer Mort to victory over the bantams.

Why is 55m run? Seems pointless, could see why there might be 50m races but 55? Why not jsut have a 60?

i know im my school the building is too small for whatever reason, so the 60m is right up to the wall and the 55m allows for 5m to kinda slow up before u run into the huge pillows on the wall.

NCAA division 3 still uses the 55m dash as well as the majority of high schools in the midwest. You will never see a 50m run in the US however, so to me that seems ridiculous to run, lol.

They run the 55m because it is basically 60yd and seeing as indoors was essentially created in the US and they started using the 60yd, it was easier to convert the tracks to 55m versus changing the entire facilities to 60m. It has since stuck. For example, this meet is @ Henry Crown Field House and it is one of the oldest indoor facilities in the country and a number of world records were set @ the facility way back in the day, but were all in standard/US measurements versus metric measurements.

The outdoor track @ the same location was actually 440yd until the 07-08 year when it was replaced and the 100m record is still held by Jesse Owens.

But why in D3 and not in D1?

Perhaps because they never changed it and instead kept it the same, while D1 actively made the change, likely to conform with the IAAF and their athletes could make the world lists for the 60m and 60mh events. A smaller factor would probably be that most of the D1 facilities are far nicer and more recently built than the majority of D3 facilities, that might by change get an occasional resurfacing (big maybe there), let alone completely new facilities to accommodate the event.
