I have been starting to write my S&C programs for my sprint and jump athletes for this upcoming indoor season and have come up with a discussion points.
I have been trying to figure out the best way to structure my speed work and my lifting. I am debating whether to have my athletes perform their “big” power and strength lifts on the same day (after) intense speed work allowing a full 48+ hours for the nervous system to recover before the next high intensity training session. Or to perform thee lifts on the days where we aren’t doing high intensity speed/acceleration work, thus lowering the stress on the nervous system for any given day, but also not allowing that longer recovery for the nervous system to adapt and recover.
Any thoughts? Lifting heavy/fast on speedwork days or on the less intense training days?
