Here is the athletes info…
14 year old female
Outdoor PR (set last outdoor season as an 8th grader)
100m – 14.23
Last year in grade school was her first time running track. I invited her out to train with some of the other sprinters this fall upon her beginning classes. From September up until two weeks ago, each and every workout she’s done suggested she was a 14.23 “sprinter”.
Last weekend, I entered her in the 60m dash at an indoor meet. She went out and ran 8.58, which isn’t blazing by any means. However, at the beginning of January, converting it out to a 100m in June, she’s on 12.90-12.80 pace. Also, in her first ever 400m, she ran 1:04. Again, NOTHING she’s EVER done in training suggests she can do this.
What gives? Can anyone explain this? Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before?
