How effective could you be at doing Special Endurance work in running shoes?
Training in shoes (non-spikes)

I doubt it would be that effective – you couldnt run as fast as you could in spikes. If you have to wear trainers because of some sort of calf/shin issue, why not look into getting some long distance / x-country spikes, as they are less harsh then sprint spikes on your calves.

I’m a big fan of LD spikes for Special Endurance work – X country flats are good too.
I usually don’t put spikes on for anything until 2 months into training, though. (Except for Jumps, of course)

Best shoe that I recently switched to for ALL workouts under 90% are the Nike Luna Racers. These are pretty much taking place of my old waffles as well as standard training shoes. At 5.5 ounces they are not only lighter than my spikes but reduced a good amount of pounding. I highly suggest you all give them a try.

Yeah but most Speed Endurance workouts are @ 85-95%. Can these racing flats still be worn for 85-95% purposes?

I can’t find a decent pic of the bottom. Do they have spikes in them or are they just flats? I would imagine curve speed would begin to suffer due to the lack of spikes once you hit the higher %’s

They are just flats.

And we have a winner for ridiculously long links!

My training program is different. 85% i may still go with these but 90% or over I would probably use spikes.

The bottom are like the nike frees. Yes, i agree they may not work to well going full speed on curves. Again this is why this shoe would be a good substitute for trainers (allowing you to go faster than in trainers) without having to worry bout the risking lower leg injuries that spikes may cause. I am unable to run anything even decent in trainers so these work wonders for me.

Nice, I love the bottom on the frees.
I’ve been looking for a good tempo shoe. I might give these a shot. How well do you think they’d work for bounding/skips? Enough cushioning or should I stick to the trainers?

Josh def. try them out for tempo. You’ll love them. For bounding/skips I’m not so sure although there is good cushioning but not much support.
