My triple jump video from yesterday’s competition. What do you think?
Thanks a lot.
I agree that my jump phase is way too short. Also the step phase is very short… but I think if I would go lower in the hop I would also go shorter. Probably step and jump phases would be further but all together it is going to be pretty much the same length. Am I wrong?
It is not further than 11.28, it was a competition jump and that is the length they measured.
You will profit a lot in your jump phase. Remaining low is key, more if you don’t have much strength. I can’t recall anybody jumping at high levels with a jump phase shorter than the hop. The very few times I triple jumped for fun I went a whole meter further while remaining lower in the first two phases and keeping them short but very fast. And you will also take a lot of stress off your hips / legs whatever.
ha well i will throw it for a loop here.
I actually love your first phase. However, I don’t you at this point of your development can handle that type of first phase. So I agree to make it lower with more forward drive. Otherwise just keep getting stronger and you’ll improve a lot. It does look forward for sure.
yea i’d say the issue is the hop landing as opposed to the actual hop. you could reduce the length/height of the hop and this would probably increase the length of your step-jump but the problem with this is that when you then re-introduce the big/high hop you’ll probably lose the step-jump again. in my opinion you’re better off perservering with the big hop and focusing on being upright and super active in the hop landing. at the end of the day, to jump far you need a big hop so you might aswell get used to it
Do you think I just need to get stronger and then I will be able to handle that type of hop?
In that case I would rather do more weights than correct my hop.
Well…It isn’t just as simple as just doing more weights. Sure, increasing your squat, step up, and clean numbers will help you but specific eccentric ability needs to be addressed as well. Increasing plyometric volume can be risky so trying to maximize quality and intensity of your plyometric training would probably be a better solution.
How come you just stopped with your journal anyway?
Thanks Nick. I decided to stay with this kind of first phase and just focus on being upright and very active in the hop landing. At the end of the season I will start making sure to be much stronger next year 😉
About the journal – at the time when I stopped writing I was very busy with school and didn’t find time for ET forum… after that I thought it doesn’t really make sense to write again if such a big part is missing.
I’m trying to analyse my body position while hop and step landing. I think my leg at hop landing is too far in front of me and at step landing my hips should be more forward. What do you think? Here are the pics (I can post bigger pics if needed):
Foot plant is fine however look at how much your leg bends on impact. That’s the issue
You are talking about my right leg at hop landing, true? Step landing is fine with you?
Yeah but I bet it also bends like the right one
