          PBs from my short last season
          60: 7.30
          100: 11.38
          200: 23.56

          Goals this season:
          1) Sub 11, If I stay healthy and training goes well this could be doable
          2) Sub 22, This might be a longshot, but will try to make this happen

          I’m training by myself this season and most likely running unattached unless I get convinced to run for my school’s track club again this year.

          GPP starts next Monday after a couple weeks of rest and relaxation. Ready to start training again!

          Pretty good first day. Had to run the hills on the sidewalk until I find a long enough grass hill. The rest in between felt long but luckily my car was parked right next to the hill so I blasted some music while I worked out. Weight room felt good, went really easy on the squats incase my lower back started to act up again. I went to the driving range last Saturday and my back felt funky after, hopefully it’s nothing serious.

          Need to really work on cleans and squats. The problem I’m having with cleans is when I deadlift the bar off the floor my butt goes up first and the rest of my body follows after. With squats, I can’t sit back and my knees tend to float forward infront of my feet. Would doing box squats until my form improves help much? I need to get this crap straightened out.

          One of the two coaches there asked what my goals were on the track and in the weight room. Told him my goal for squats is to get back to 225 parallel for reps and instead he told me to do quarter squats and be able to hit 2.5 times my body weight.. I’m definitely going to be running unattached this year, I don’t wanna drop $200+ just to practice with them.

          Other than that, I miss training with people.

          Due to the fact that these were all under 4 seconds I’m assuming the times are garbage. Until I can use some timing gates won’t bother testing 30ms.

          150m Time Trial: 17.60
          Friend timed me, time started with my first movement. Had to run in lane 1 because the track team was using all the other lanes. Turn obviously felt like crap, but straightaway felt real nice. Hoping to get in the high 16s next time I test.

          OHB: ~47 1/2 feet
          Didn’t have measuring tape, but it so happens my Nike Frees are pretty damn close to 1 foot/12 inches. Will hopefully get measuring tape next time.

          Didn’t have measuring tape again, so I used my Nike Free’s to measure the distance. My STJ was horrible, which shows how badly I suck at bounding. Going to be working on bounding a lot this season.

          Cold out today. Wore 3 layers for the legs; spandex, leggings, and sweats. Flys felt decent today, feels good to be running fast to some degree. Cleans felt good, but squats felt great! Was finally feeling confident going atg without my back hurting again. However, I spoke too soon. On the last rep of the last set of squats the right side of my lower back spazzed out -____- Looks like squats are going to be taking a back seat again temporarily…

          Should I just take out back squats if they’re causing pain in my lower back?

Not going to do the time trial in Oakland, though running a 150 with competition would’ve been a lot of fun.

          Forgot stopwatch today. Blocks were feeling great today, but on the fourth rep around 20m the right side of my lower back started to act up again, and I pulled up. Really frustrating that my back keeps hurting, but I figured out this happens from sitting in the car for too long. I had a field trip to Monterey Bay Aquarium, which is a little over an hour away, and sitting in the car for a long period of time really hurts my lower back for some reason. After a while, my back felt fine, and I was still able to do 150s.

          I didn’t think of any cues at all, I just ran. My starts are nowhere close to last year but my speed end is still there sort of. First 30 was alright but I stood right up. Not that far off from where I was last year at this time, just need to clean up the start and put in some SSE.

          60: 7.33
          Bad start, my two friends got out on me and I had to chase them down. Only .03 off my PR which is good.

          Theres going to be more meets every Saturday until the last Saturday of February. Planning on coming out in three weeks again. Going to work on my block starts and acceleration so I can lower my 60 time. The 100 is taking a back seat for now hehe.

          Got my back checked today, found out my back is super tight and the right side of my lower back is more muscularly developed than my left side. Also my hamstrings and calves are tight, which I’m not surprised. Because of my super flat feet I was told to buy orthotics which might help my posture plus all the crap I’m feeling in my body.

          Got to the meet late because my parents wanted to watch and they were taking a while. Had about 10 minutes to warm up, wasn’t even able to get any practice starts or some quick maxv runs before the race. Wasn’t anyone to push me since almost everyone in my heat was masters. Good start, felt like I was getting full extension and pushing hard. When I got upright I felt fine, but I couldn’t open up at all. Was taking small choppy steps and started fading past 60ish. Need to fix more stuff and work on hip mobility too.

          No 60 today. Will run again 2 weeks from now at one last all comers, most likely the 100 and 200. From there I’m running at the Aggie Open at UC Davis on 3/12

          2) How much should my volume decrease on the track/in the weight room?

          Good start but after 40m I couldn’t hold myself together. Stride wasn’t opening up at all and fought myself all the way through the finish line. Warming up felt great and the strides I was doing on the track felt great, but when it came to race time I’m guessing I tightened up pretty bad. Will be running next Saturday at Sacramento State Hornet Invitational. I know what I need to work on, hopefully I can make this sub 11 business happen before the end of the season.

          It wasn’t raining that bad today, so I decided to do some block work even though I did accels yesterday. I tried something different today, first 2 reps I only put the right back block in to work on and applying pressure properly with the right leg, then next 2 reps I only put the left front block in to work on getting triple extension, then last 2 reps were both blocks. Felt really good, I’m more aware of how it feels to get triple extension out of the “zero step” now; gotta work on pushing down the track better.

          Got about 3 hours of sleep the night before because of a cold that was growing slowly throughout the week. Built up to that night and I had a fever almost all of the night until about 5AM. Got 3 hours of sleep and trucked it to the meet. Took some DayQuil and felt better, but I should’ve had some caffeine or something to give me a boost of energy. Had a decent start but I stood right up as usual and started running. Felt a lot better than the UC Davis meet but I felt dead and flat while I competed. Right now I’m still sick but feeling a little better, hopefully will be ready to run this Friday.

          Did blocks with MP, had a little trouble coming out of the blocks, but during the second set I raised my hips higher during the set position which fixed that right away.           Heres the plan now, will take the rest of this week off and start training again for summer meets next week focusing on both the 100 and 200 this time. I’ll start with a short 3 week GPP with lots of tempo, unload, then progress into SPP with my first meet being on the 23rd of June I believe. Going to be experimenting a lot and trying some different things, hope it produces fast times this summer.

          Was up studying all last night and had 2 finals today. Ran into a huge headwind first rep but still pushed it and ended up running a 28, which equates to going out way too hard on the first rep again. Switched things up and walked a fast 200m for rest to get to the 200m start so I didn’t run into a headwind. Was dying rest of the workout, so I took the 7th rep out and pushed it a little harder on the 6th rep. Unload week is not until the 30th, thats a long way from now.

Side planks on my left side feel so much weaker than my right side.

          What was supposed to be a rest day yesterday turned into a full contact 3×3 minute sparring match at my friends house. Woke up a little sore and tired. My crappy 300 time dropped 2 seconds to 38.06, which is still bad but I’m happy still. SLJ was done in trainers and was crappy, there was sand on the runway and I kept slipping every time I pushed off the track. I have a lot of room for improvement for both the 300 and SLJ. At least I have some numbers to look at and try to improve now. Wednesday I’m doing STJ and OHB and Friday is 150 and BLF.

          EDIT: Just realized I did the SLJ wrong, lol. Should’ve went all the way to the edge of the runway instead of jumping from the middle.

Something doesn’t feel right when I wear them, so I’ll be using my old Maxcats from now on. Felt really drained and tired after the 2nd 100, so I shut it down.

          Treated today as one really crazy speed endurance workout. Couldn’t open up my stride in the 100, a better warm up and running in the open heat instead of being put in the masters heat could’ve helped. Felt really great in the 60, the 100 loosened me up and I ran a PR. 200 was right after the 60, and I pretty much jogged the run. My old high school needed an extra leg on the 4×4, so I volunteered. Overall a great day, still aiming for low to sub 11. Running again next Thursday and taking tomorrow off and starting up Saturday.

          Left hamstring cramped up during some block starts today. Did a lot of stretching yesterday, most likely contributed to the cramp. Will RICE and take a couple days off. I’m considering shutting down for the rest of the summer season, work and other things are making it difficult to train as it is. Will see how things go from here.

          Warmed up well and was ready for the 100, but the hurdles ran about 30 minutes longer than they normally do. Kept trying to stay warm throughout the hurdles and by the time the 100 finally started I was exhausted. By the time the 60 started I felt much better and had a decent showing there. Finished off the runs with 3×5 hurdle hops and a contrast shower when I got home.
