Hello all. You have a wonderful website here; I’m very glad I found it.
I have a few questions. First, I have read numerous places that in a macrocycle one should lift for maximal strength before power. Is this true? Assuming it is, my next question is how would I periodize my year for two peaks (indoor NCAAs and either outdoor NCAAs or USAs)? Neglecting summer training, it is fairly simple – Sept for anatomical adaptation, Oct and halfway through Nov for maximal strength, then halfway through Nov to the end of Dec for power and explosiveness development. Then maintain during the indoor season and repeat a similar cycle for outdoors. The problem with that is what do I do during the summer? I hate not lifting but I’m not sure exactly what I should be doing.
I read the article that Mike posted about Eastern vs. Western periodization and am very curious about Eastern periodization – I have not heard much about it. If someone would enlighten me that would be fantastic.
As far as lifting with running workouts goes – would it be better to do lifting on the same day or separate days? If you say the same day, should I lift in the morning before class (the workouts are in the afternoon) or should I lift after the workouts? I know nothing about CNS management. I am a 400/800 runner so the workouts are not usually or ever “go as fast as you can for 100 meters.”
I think that is all for now. Thank you in advance for any information.
