I was wondering what everyone is doing during longer rest? From the 5 min rest for max speed work to the 10 min plus rest for speed endurance? walking, jogging, nothing, ect….
What are you during your rest?

Everything you said….walking, jogging, stretching, self massage, lying down with legs elevated if necessary, and during shorter rest during tempo light general strength work may be done including pushups and crunches.

i pace back and fourth intimidating all whom are there with me…
jk
but i really do, i like to do the michael myers walk back and forth in order to stay focused on the set ahead of me. I believe the more we start to get into stretching/jogging/self-massage ect. we heighten the chances of losing focus on the task at hand. All of our concentration should be on that single task. The next set ahead.
That’s not to say – let yourself cool down. Just do a pace.
Remember that this is a crucial time in our sprinting lives, a place where we find ourselves for 75% (if not more) of our actual workout – “In Between Sets” – we must use this time in concentration, meditation – using this time wisely will help to sustain us during tough workouts and in turn, later sustain our track careers.
We should take this time right now in reading to remember that the greatness found in crossing a finish line in first place is not really accomplished during the race but rather, during the time we will spend in practice bettering ourselves.
Evidence of Victory can be found in many places, places such as the bleachers we run up and down, the track we practice on everyday, that bottle of beer which remains un-opened in our refridgerator, that pair of Nike’s with worn-to-the-knub souls. One thing’s for sure, it’s not found during competition, – That’s the easy part. –
In our careers all times are important, even the times we spend doing nothing at all. Even the times we spend in between sets ~
When I really think about it, this simple question is a very good one to ask.but I agree with quikazhell, all those things are actually what I did today I simply wish to reinforce the value of concentration.

I like this reply, i also pace up and down for time to time. It all depends what mood i am in, sometimes i lie on the ground, go through some stretches and drills. I do this on longer rest, but on shorter ones, i don’t pay attention to no one else.
Later i have been, mouthing off alot. I don’t know why i am doing this, because i am quite a laid back person.
Also, lately i have been training myslef mentally inbetween sets. For example if i had to get 4 200’s in 25secs with 6mins inbetween. When i would feel the pain, like its this horrible pain. I try to block it out and get angry!
I threat training like competition, and not scared of getting beaten but i don’t like it. But i like a challange, i like training with other athletes who are better than me at certain things.
Like at the moment, there is a middle distance runner who is fantastic at 400s and 200s, in training. This athlete can recovery very fast and be consistant.
Well over the past year, i have been getting closer and closer to him. Are 200meter session are neck to neck, we hurt each other.
If the rest was 8mins inbetween. I would destory this athlete, but over short recoverys it is a battle.
Plus this athlete is well respected throughtout are club, they all love this athlete and think he is the best.
800m and 1500m are this athletes events, but this athlete is number one in are club for 400meters aswell.
Things are going to change, am gouing to shake a few things up. I beleave this athlet is getting scared, because i see it in training.
And i don’t think he can handle getten beaten. BUt i can i have been there, and it has made me a well rounded athlete.
now that winter training has set in, the middle distance runners are spilt up form the sprinters.

– “I like a challenge”
– “I like training with other athletes who are better than me at certain things.” < This is Key. ********
– “Things are going to change, am gouing to shake a few things up. I beleave this athlete is getting scared, because i see it in training.”
“And i don’t think he can handle getten beaten. But i can, i have been there, and it has made me a well rounded athlete.”I believe you have unlocked the mystery for yourself, in becoming a champion.
Let his post speak loud and clearly to all, as these things are key virtues of a Champion-calibor athlete.
