You do all your long term planning, your divide the year into training blocks, those blocks are broken down into manageable microcyles then you have to work the plan. Working the plan entails a well designed training session that prepares for all contingencies. It is truly where the rubber meets the road in the implementation of the training plan. In my experience the session can be well planned b

Sad to see Uncle Vern borrowing from another’s work :<)
I'll scold him when I go down to Tampa in March.

Nice piece, I don't know how I agree with you so much as you are supposed to be the raving ranter. Anyways, I love to see other people (yourself and Vern especially) who recognize the problems in athletic development and sport relating to lack of unstructured play.

I wonder how many kids who play only in leagues and can pump in a billion free-throws straight will ever get it that they will not get better unless they step out onto the playground and learn to be creative with their game in basketball. Dell Curry knew what he was doing, tomorrow I have to go watch a 4yr old and 7yr old play organized basketball at a YMCA of all places. Why not just set out a huge block of gym time instead? I argue night and day with my GF about our son and sports and he is 16 months old. I am not going to let him play organized sports until he's at least 11 or 12, but she's bound and determined to make him play as it's so cute! I keep telling her he'll have more fun on the playground and he'll be better because of it.

Or perhaps its the other way around??????

I am on a binge of friend name dropping.
Got Will in on the Track Coach Hept piece
In Fix the Right Problem, got in:
“Lane Symposium” from Todd’s Ball State years
and the “Coaching friend” Rap Master Ron Grigg.

Now I gotta hurry up and write the great American coaching novel before the end of the month so I can use it to drop the Great Wazoo’s name for his birthday on the 27th?

Who is this great Wazoo you keep referring to? Is he the same mystery man the Mr. Wizard you have also mentioned? He seems like a kook. Oddly, his birthday appears to be the day before mine.

Who is this great Wazoo you keep referring to? Is he the same mystery man the Mr. Wizard you have also mentioned? He seems like a kook. Oddly, his birthday appears to be the day before mine.

The Grand Wazoo – a 1972 jazz fusion album by Frank Zappa

The Great Gazoo – an alien exiled to Earth who helps Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble, often against their will.

The Grand Wizard of Wrestling, Ernie Roth (born June 7, 1929 in Canton, Ohio- October 12, 1983), also well known as Abdullah Farouk, was a professional wrestling manager of many infamous heels. Not a wrestler himself due to his small stature, he was noted for his flamboyant outfit of sequined jackets, wraparound sunglasses, and a brightly-colored turban decorated with jewels and feathers.

So after reading all the above, it should be clear to anyone that you are in fact the amalgam of all the above…

PS: Happy Birthday.

PSS: Did your Trials sweetheart send along birthday greetings to her “little Man”?

As for my trials sweetheart…I think she still considers me a little BOY.

David,

Please leave his mother alone.
Remember that time when you were 8 and you started losing your hair and your really big head was bared to see. All the kids made fun of you. You are doing the same to him.

My fan is old news…doesn’t even have a post on the site and will likely get purged if they don’t contribute within the 6 month purge cycle. Your fan is an active member of the community and forever enshrined in ET greatness. Welcome to the boards Mrs. Kerin.
