What technique would you recommend for me to use?

I use the sail technique now, but I see a lot of female jumpers use the hang (1/2 hitch kick)
The world record holder Galina Chistyakova used the sail, so apparently it’s not bad.

Here’s a vid of me doing both: I did the hang on left as a coordination drill if you wodered) The right is my take-off leg.

hate to state the obvious but you’ve used your non take-off leg for the hitch so not really a fair comparison

It really doesn’t matter very much. You appear to be in a better landing position on the 1/2 hitch jump but it’s off your left leg so it’s hard to tell for sure.

Yeah, I know the vids are not comparable, I just put it in so you could see that I have tried the 1 1/2 hitch, and that if I tried I could change from sail to hang/hitch.

But in general, would you recommend the one in front of the other?

both techniques look good & from what i’ve seen women have used both techniques successfully so (assuming you’re jumping similar distances off both) i would say which ever feels more natural for you off a full approach is the one to go for. also, out of interest how big was the second jump on the video? looks pretty decent

I think the sail feels more natural, because that is the one I’ve used for a long time.
I don’t remember the excact number, but the left-footed jumps were about 3-4 feet (1m) shorter than the right-footed jumps. So not excactly very good 😛

For some reason the hitch came more natural on the left foot, probably because I don’t have the sail technique automatic in that leg. But if I learn the hitch on right foot, maybe it will be good? I’ll just keep trying the different techniques until I find what is the best.

Thanks for the advices, and I’m still open for ideas 🙂

sorry i meant the second jump on the video in terms of technique looked big (the sail). anyway, looking at the jumps again, i reckon the hitch looks better & assuming you can hold it together off the full approach it could be the way to go

You appear to have a very good understanding of how to land correctly. This is nice to see.

You had slightly more early forward rotation with the sail. I agree the hitch technique and landing was very good and it looked very natural for you. However being on the wrong leg would be an issue. It is no surprise though, you are very used to bringing a certain leg through to land last and the 1/2 hitch changes which leg comes through last. That is why you are better off the other leg. I am the exact same way.

I would suggest modifying your sail slightly… instead do a hitch/hang which is simply the same take off and free leg action as the hitch with the flight and landing of the sail. It won’t be too difficult for you to do i would think.

          Thanks a lot Nick 🙂

When you mean hitch/hang, do you mean something like this:

Yes exactly…I find that the hang style take off limits range of motion and take off speed. The hitch kick style take off doesn’t have this problem. However name me 5 pro’s who land the hitch kick correctly? So the combo of the 2 seems like the best answer.
