I agree with Nick. I have thought about naming my first daughter after Maurice. It's a common name for a girl now a days. Geez

now, now, cut the kid some slack, i'm sure when you started getting interested in a sport you didn't know who some of the athletes were, especially a sport which isn't as televised as track.

i'm sure there is probably a lacrosse or water polo site like this out there and if they asked us if we knew who the great Joe Schmo was and we sed no, I'm sure they'd react the way we did.

Some other names that you should know that are synonymous with the term "sprints" …

          1. Carl Lewis ( this guy is a crazy long jumper, won lots of medals in this event. Crazy sprinter as well. Won olympic gold medals for the 100, 200, long jump, as well as being the anchor for the 4×100 US relay team )

          2. Ben Johnson ( this guy is infamous for his steroid abuse during the seoul 1988 olympics where he set a world record for the 100m (9.79s) but was later stripped of the medal when he was discovered to be using steroids )

          3. Michael Johnson ( Probably my favourite sprinter of the whole group. This guy is the first guy to hold olympic gold medals in the 200m AND the 400m events AT the SAME olympics (1996 atlanta olympics) …why do i like this guy so much? It has got to be his running style… Its a running form that most track coaches out there will plead with you to change… (at least mine tells me that his form is bad) …but the thing is he still blazes the track with it…so…if it works it works…his running form is one of the most unique of all sprinters…heh heh….he runs while leaning slightly backwards…)

          4. Jesse Owens ( Don't really know a lot about this guy except that he won a ton of gold medals at one shot at a particular olympics quite some time ago…a legend among track circles )

          5. And who can forget Maurice Greene? he used to hold the 100m world record till tim broke it.

Oh yeah…there's also frankie fredericks but i don't really know what he's famous for…maybe u can do some research on him when u 'r interested?

Well that's about all for the great legends of sprints i guess….

oh yeah…i forgot to add another guy… Lindford Christie (i think this is how u spell his name…not very sure)… Anyway, I guess this guy is famous because he held a lot of medals at one shot…He was the European champion, the olympic champion, the Commonwealth Champion, the outdoor championships champion..and a couple of others…He won all that at one shot and held all those medals at one time altogether…

And just so that you know, an "anchor" in a relay team is the last person to run in that team…He's supposed to be the fastest runner. Why that is so, I have no idea… Perhaps the others in this forum can help you

          You forgot guys like:

Donovan Bailey – former world record holder in the 100m (9.84)

Ato Boldon – sprinter from Trinidad who at one point was the world's most up and coming sprinter

Jon Drummond – arguably has the greatest start in the history of Track and Field

others: Mike Marsh, Leroy Burrell, Dennis Mitchell, Butch Reynolds

What about the long sprinters…Obea Moore? Tyree Washington? The Harrison Twins? Jerome Davis and Jerome Young? If you're going to name people synonymous with sprints, then include ALL sprints 😛 😆

I know 400. I was just giving a few more names. Heck, if we wanted to get into all the big names, we'd have a VERY long list!
