I don’t know if it’s just me but when I sprint it actually makes me slower. It seems like my speed is directly related to how much I lift in the weight room. If I do any type of running or jumping it makes my lifts decrease and therefore my speed. Even if the running happens on gym days or in lieu of. Light jogging is okay, but running at 90% intensity for short bursts or practicing my broad jump really weakens me. If it makes a difference I am 31 years old. Strangely enough I can accurately predict my vertical/broad jump/top speed by how much I can back squat that given day. I have been logging my progress for some time now starting from a 135lb squat at 17″ vertical / 7ft broad / 25km/hr top speed, up to 355lb squat 35″ vertical / 11ft broad/ 38km/hr top speed. Not that I am looking to compete but just enjoy the training.
Any ideas or does this seem strange?
