I sure do respect all of you that live in cold weather. I am in Milwaukee to speak at the Wisconsin Track Coaches Association, it is 11 degrees right now with a whole bunch of snow on the ground. I will never complain again when my wife wants me to rake leaves in 75 degree weather, sure beats shoveling snow. It also explains all those Wisconsin license plates in Sarasota. I spoke at the WISTCA clinic last year and conditions were the same (unbelievably cold with quite a bit of snow) and I would still rank it as one of the most enjoyable clinics I’ve ever done. The coaches (many of whom I still correspond with) there were genuinely interested and attendance was VERY high.

Welcome to my world. I train in Kenosha which is about 45 min away from Milwaukee. 14in of snow last Wednesday. Cold all day everyday the last 2 weeks and the weather normally doesn’t break until late April or early May. This sucks for a track athlete, especially a speed power athlete. This morning on my way to work -3 with the wind chill. Some of you in the world don’t know what the wind chill is, let alone feel it. MAN UP!!! It will be ok. 😉

I respect you but I do not envy you.
Oddly, I’ve had trained a disproportionate number of athletes via correspondence from WI. Also, I had the great displeasure of growing up with Buffalo winters so I know what -25 degree wind chills feel like but I’m glad to say I don’t know (and never want to know) what -50 degree wind chills feel like (can you still FEEL at that temperature anyhow?).

Thanks for the respect it has not been easy, but I have made the best of my situations in the mid-west. The temps have not stopped the hard work and the production though. Hopefully they will carry over and pay off next week at the USA Championships.
