I just moved to Amarillo and started my high school career here. I love track in Texas it's so much more competitive.
-
HA! Small world! I USUALLY spend my summers there in Amarillo. Will be there in June. As I said, I got family all over town. What school do you go to and what's your name if you don't mind me asking? Also where did you move from? You could u2u me if you wish.

Well, I have to admit, I do feel that the 400 is helping to drop my 200 time. I guess thats a good reason to keep running it.
Something I've been meaning to ask-Do split times tend to be slower or faster than open times (if there is any difference at all)?
-
Does which leg of the race you run have any bearing on that? For example, I'm always the first leg in 4×200 and 4×400. That would make my times about the same since I am pretty much running the normal race (blocks and all that, don't have to worry about taking a hand-off or anything)
-
If you're referring to "doing well and then peaking out early", a lot has to do with improper periodization in workouts. Actually, that's probably the biggest thing b/c managing intensities, volumes, etc. all falls under periodization and not periodizing properly can lead to improper peaking.
-
I second that 400. In fact, you should be in the mid to low 22's, let alone low 23's.

If you can run 15.7 in the hurdles then your 100, 200, and 400 times should be much faster. Especially the 200 and 400 times.

In the 4×4, it could be an entirely different story. You could be passing people (on the outside, if the people you pass are smart runners), cutting in, who knows. In the end, you could have run anywhere from 390m to 420m, depending on the handoff quality and the 'obstacles' in your way.

I was alway wondering what is the longest leg on this relay???? I was told it was the third……is this usually true?
Thanks
-
I think the 1st leg is because you run the entire length of a 400m. I don't even think you're allowed to go out to 420m in the 4×4 b/c I don't think the exchange zone is that long and if you are running more than 400m, you've got some problems to fix anyways.
-
our best 110 hurdler (im second best) runs 15.6 and has a 12.2 100m time. i havent ran the 400 since january, so i might be faster now. and i ran that 200 PR after i ran 3 races, and still had lactic acid buildup from the 300mH. speaking of which, i ran a 43.03 in the 300mH today.
and another succes story tyte, i dropped my 100m time from 12.3 to 11.6 with the info on this board. but i think my knowledge is still pretty basic, so well see what i do next year.
-
dagovernor, or anyone for that matter, i just calculated the average pace in the 300mh i ran today and applied it to the 400. the number i got was 57.37. do you think its possible for me to run a sub 57s 400m? thanks in advance.

i was referring to the open 400m, thanks. im hoping to get onto the kingco board for 5 events (not including relay). ive got 3, i just need a 200 under 24.6 and a 400 under 57.

In my experience, the second leg of the 4×4 is the longest.
Anything is possible if you work hard!
Last year I ran a 1:06 in my very first 400, and 5 weeks later I was at a 58.84. This year, I've dropped nearly 3 seconds already! Going for 4 and 5 in the next few weeks. -
congrats on your 15.5

Wayne great job! Do you compete USATF club in the summer? When is your state meet down in LA?

Great man. Will you be in Eugene end of July for J.O. ? If so, I'll be looking for you! Keep up the great work. Peace.

40yrd dash = 4.4
100m = 11.35
200m = 23.23
400m = 51.56
all of these times are timed with "accutrak" a electical gun aims at the starting gun and when it sees the flash it automaticly starts the clock. a video camera is set up at finish line.. and slow-mo with time times on screen to correctly time the times. -

Add .24 on to your hand time for the accurate fat read.
