Lately I have been thinking are Olympic lifts truly beneficial in a athletes program, I think Olympic lifts has helped me tons, but I hear stories from others about success in the Olympic lifts didn't transfer to success in there sport (maybe other parts of there training wasn't in place). I know many coaches claim you don't have to do the full Olympic lifts nor rack the weight to get the full benefit from the lift, I think there is SOME truth to that but i truly believe you need to rack the weight to get the full benefit. For example, coaches say you only need to perform pulls and high pulls but what about racking the weight they are missing a major component of the Olympic lifts because the racking of the weight develops mental toughness, aggressiveness, timing, quickness, and flexibility for ALL sports.
I have three questions:
1: Are Olympic lifts beneficial?
2: Do you have to rack the weight to get full benefit?
3: Can you get full benefit by only performing pulls, high pulls, and shrugs?
Views from other coaches:
1: "if they are taught how to squat and deadlift correctly there is no need to perform Olympic lift variations". MY View: Thats False.
2: "It is a great challenge for me to disregard the feelings of hatred I have for ignorant coaches whose programs revolve around the Olympic lifts". My view: Whats wrong with developing a program around the Olympic lifts?
