While the Premier League has seen its fair share of excellent football, there have been scenarios where players have faced tough times due to injuries.
Some of the top players who have been plagued with injuries include the likes of Jack Wilshere, Santi Carzola, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Daniel Sturridge and Eric Bailly.
The former Arsenal midfielder was a reckoning force in the middle for the Gunners but, owing to a horrific injury-prone career he missed on various big games and was absent for many of the important fixtures. The 2011-12 season was the worst for the midfielder as he missed the entire season, he was out for a total of 412 days owing to the various injuries he accrued, which included an ankle injury, fatigue fracture followed by a knee surgery. He faced yet another ankle injury during the 2012-13 and 2014-15 seasons respectively. During the 2015-16 season, he suffered a hairline crack in the calf bone leading to him missing out on almost the entire season yet again. The same thing repeated itself during his 2016-17 season with Arsenal where they finished fifth in the Premier League table and the 2017-18 season at West Ham united.
Yet another former Gunner who finds his name in the list is Santi Carzola. The former Spanish international has had a very tough career full of dangerous injuries. The now Villarreal midfielder has been deprived of 668 days of his career during an agonising two years in which he had 11 operations. The midfielder has been ravaged by an Achilles injury since October 2016 – one that not only threatened his career but also his ability to walk.
Alex Oxlade Chamberlain
While his time at Arsenal, Alex faced minor injuries every now and then, with the 2013-14 season being the worst for him with the Gunners. Owing to a groin and knee injury the midfielder was out for a total of 34 games. A hamstring injury and a torn muscle fibre were suffered by him in the following season.
However, after he transferred off to Liverpool he faced a horrific cruciate ligament rupture during the 2017-18 season and was ruled out for the entire season, he is now slowly making recovery looking forward to the 2019-20 season.
The former Liverpool midfielder has seen his fair share of injuries during his time at the club, he suffered various ankle related injuries from the 2012-13 season to the 2014-15 season and also a major hip injury during the 2014-15 season. His hip injury scenario continued through the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons with the Reds where he missed out on various important games.
During his time at Villareal, the central defender faced a few minor injuries. His injuries included a hamstring injury, a shoulder injury and certain thigh problems which made him miss out on various games for the La-Liga side. Ever since he has joined Manchester United, Bailly has been facing a tough time in keeping his fitness, he suffered a bruise followed by an ankle injury during the 2017-18 season with the Red Devils and is currently under rest owing to a knee surgery scheduled in July 2019.
